This is a chafe plate in 316 stainless steel for the Sea Hunt 27. It protects the hull or deck surface where lines, anchor rode or chain would otherwise wear the gelcoat.
Chafe plates are fitted at the bow, around hawse openings and at line contact points. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 grades in saltwater.
