This is a 316 stainless steel hinge with an integrated guard. The guard covers the hinge knuckle area to reduce pinch points and help keep lines, fingers and debris out of the hinge.
Guarded hinges are used on hatches, lids and doors in high traffic areas of the cockpit and deck. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 grades in saltwater.
