This is a polished 316 stainless steel seat hinge, version 2. It lets a seat cushion or seat lid lift for access to the storage below.
Seat hinges are used on bench seats, console seats and storage lids throughout the cockpit. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 grades in saltwater. A polished surface is smoother and sheds salt and moisture more readily, which helps limit tea staining.
