Shock bracket in 316 stainless steel, designated F8J, EG. It mounts a shock absorber to the boat structure.
Shock brackets take repeated load in exposed locations. 316 stainless steel carries molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion from salt spray than 304, so it is the standard choice for exposed hardware on saltwater boats.
