This is a polished 316 stainless steel port storage gate for the Balise. It closes off a storage opening on the port side to keep gear contained.
Storage gates are used on pontoon and deck boat layouts where open storage needs a secure, visible closure. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 grades in saltwater. A polished surface is smoother and sheds salt and moisture more readily, which helps limit tea staining.
