This is a starboard gunwale end cap in cast, polished 316 stainless steel. It closes off the end of the gunwale cap or rub rail and gives the gunwale a finished edge.
Gunwale end caps sit at the transom or bow ends of the gunwale where they take impact from lines, fenders and docks. 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 grades in saltwater. Casting allows a formed profile, and polishing helps the surface shed salt.
